Site Response Investigation

Earthquake ground motion is significantly influenced by the geological materials. As waves propagates toward the surface, they undergo changes due to several factors that modify the frequency and amplitude of the upgoing phases. For site specific projects, the susceptibility of the geological materials beneath the structures to amplification of motions needs to be evaluated. We provide the following services for this purpose:

  • Calculation of the shear-wave velocity and elastic properties of the soil column from geophysical surveys such as refraction seismic technique or multi-channel analysis of surface waves
  • Estimation of site fundamental frequency and amplification curves at different frequencies
  • Model of the shear-wave velocity in the top 30 meters and site class estimation according to the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program
  • Evaluation of the amplification of input ground motion to the site model
